Discuss with your coordinator and your mentor thoughts and ideas surrounding college as an important part of your future
Discuss any tips you have for financial management and how to start saving money for college
Begin thinking about other expenses associated with attending college
Make sure that you are developing good study habits and self-management skills to build throughout high school
Focus on your academics: grades are very important to establish a grade point average (GPA) and class rank, which are important factors for scholarship eligibility and college acceptance
Stay updated with your school work. If you need help, reach out to your Tutor Corps Coordinator.
Take on leadership positions whenever possible
Do not take on more than you can handle
Begin working on Career Readiness programs
Apply for documents that you will need in the future to apply for Bright Futures, scholarships, FAFSA, and other college-related forms (i.e. a state-issued identification card which can later be replaced by a driver’s license)
Many require at least two forms of ID: can be
state ID, school ID, passport, etc. depending on what you are applying for
Research colleges and programs available while in high school or once in college including summer camps, study abroad, research opportunities, department programs
Continue to research admission requirements at different higher education institutions
Review your four-year plan and make adjustments as needed
Create a resume that can be updated throughout high school
Include academics, extracurriculars, jobs, volunteer hours, etc.
